15 Sep 2013, 13:00. Camino pilgrims Maria and Ramon walk between vineyards as we approach Poyo de Roldán (literally “Podium of Roldán,” i.e, the hill with the vertical pole) east of Nájera. A legend states that a giant named Ferragus (or “Ferragut”), who had beaten the best warriors of Charlemagne, was killed at this location in personal combat with Roldán (or “Roland”) who threw a heavy stone at him. |
