19 Sep 2013, 11:09. A medieval pilgrim on the Camino Francés heading toward Santiago would have encountered many pilgrims returning from Santiago to their places of origin. But today one finds few pilgrims walking the Camino away from Santiago, as virtually all of them leave by public transportation. Consequently, a modern pilgrim’s typical experience of the Camino is that of everyone traveling toward Santiago. But at this location in a pedestrian park path adjacent to the rio Arlanzón in Burgos, Spain, pilgrim Ramon finds that unidirectional character of the Camino largely negated, not by pilgrims, of course, but by local residents simply enjoying their public park. |
