23 Sep 2013, 11:50. Entrance of the 13th-century Iglesia Santa María la Blanca (Church of Saint Mary the White) in Villalcázar de Sirga, Spain. The attribution of “White Mary” refers to the depiction on the church’s altarpiece of Mary dressed in a white cloak as she holds the baby Jesus. The pilgrims seen entering the church were coincidentally photographed with the entrance. But two days hence on the Camino Francés east of Sahagún, they would come to my aid when I became stricken with a debilitating 24-hour stomach virus. |
