27 Sep 2013, 12:38. On a lonely section of the Camino Francés approximately 14 km (8.7 miles) west of Sahagún, graffiti (probably written by a pilgrim) expresses opposition to the human consumption of animals. I’ll note that most restaurant (and even some albergue-provided) pilgrim meals along the Camino during my walk contained animal flesh—this in contrast to the situation during the Middle Ages when pilgrim meals would have been vegan (or nearly so) due to the expense of raising livestock and difficulties of preserving and transporting meat and fish. |
