Camino pilgrims stand before La Cruz de Ferro (The Iron Cross)

4 Oct 2013, 08:16. Before sunrise on the Camino Francés at La Cruz de Ferro (The Iron Cross), approximately 2 km west of Foncebadón. An iconic Camino location bound to the tradition of each pilgrim here leaving a stone from their home as an act symbolic of leaving behind one’s sins and beginning life anew. Pilgrims might also pray at the foot of the cross. Nowadays pilgrims also place written notes into the wooden base of the cross and often pose beside it for photographs.
