| 12 Oct 2013, 13:27. Camino pilgrims rest at Casa Porta de Santiago located approximately 12.6 km (7.8 miles) from Santiago de Compostela. I’d walked a considerable distance with these women that day, and upon arriving at this café, the woman on the right discovered that her walking poles had vanished. This was a curious development because an hour earlier a photo I’d taken of her showed the poles stored at the top of her backpack. Presumably they’d fallen off between then and her reaching this café. She chose to backtrack the Camino in search of her poles. Her friend stayed behind at the café to wait for her return. I continued on alone to Santiago and never saw either of them again.
