13 Oct 2013, 12:54. Inside the Catedral de Santiago (Spain) near the completion of the noon pilgrim Mass on the day after I completed walking the Camino Francés from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. At the altar stand priests dressed in green while a nun (at left) leads the congregants in song. In front of the altar the Botafumeiro (censer), through the organized rope-pulling of eight men, swings through the north and south transepts. As stated on the Cathedral website: “In the same manner that the aroma of the incense perfumes the entire basilica, so must Christians, with their virtues and the testimony of their lives, impregnate with the good scent of Christ, the society that they live in.”
