Dale Chihuly glass sculpture Scarlet and Yellow Icicle Tower (extreme closeup) at the New York Botanical Garden. The sculpture embodies the contradiction of simultaneous “fire” and “ice” through juxtaposition of representative color (scarlet being indicative of flame) and form (that suggests icicles). The nearly complete absence of scarlet coloring in the work’s lower portion obscures the contradiction of the work’s totality. Photo by Mike Hudak (21:04, 17 June 2017) |
